I went to the Swedish capital to visit a friend around Christmas time in 2013, so of course it was a cold/dark wnter period as typical of this region! In the few hours of light each day I managed to visit some of the most prominent attractions and in the evening saw the lights and decorations around the city with many people out shopping for the holidays.
The area’s myriad waterways and island clusters from above:

A quick lookaround on the evening of arrival

Exploring the main parts of the city in daytime

Visiting the famous Vasa museum, featuring the entire sunken ship by the same name (which had capsized back in 1628)

Visiting the Nordic museum of cultural history (Nordiska Museet)

Exploring some of the trendy shopping, dining and nightlife areas around the city

Some nice mockups of the city showing its layout among the waterways
