This bustling city is the capital of the Guangdong region of southern China (know in English as Canton, and home of the Cantonese language). It’s set along a major river and adorned with many colorful towers & skyscrapers. Lately it’s become quite famous as a trading hub for Chinese goods, due its proximity to the industrial city of Shenzhen and the ports of Hong Kong as well.
I visited here in the summer of 2025, which is not the best time given the hot/humid weather in the area and also possibility of sudden/heavy rains. I stayed in the lively center area which features many fancy restaurants and shopping centers along the river walk, and most of the city’s large buildings. I also had a chance to go up the famous Canton Tower and get some nice views from the top.
On arrival with the flight, I could see how lush and green the area is due to its torrential rains:

On my first evening in town, I walked around the center area to see the color-lighted towers, riverside restaurants and lavish shopping areas:

In the daytime I visited the Canton Tower and went to the top open area, where they have small “bubble cars” going around in a circle. Got some nice shots of the symmetrical-patterened downtown area and river briges.

On my departure towards Hong Kong, I got to see the city’s huge train station and superfast trains with amazing business class seats!
