Belgrade

Situated off the banks of the famous Danube river, this city is the capital of Serbia and previously served as capital of the whole Yugoslavia union (which is now split into 7 small countries) in the Balkans region of Europe.

Belgrade has a lively city center area full of cafes and entertainment, and also features a popular historic castle overlooking the river. I visited here back in 2011 and more recently in 2021, enjoyed the food & culture and general vibe of the city. One of the only issues I faced here is that they don’t allow ride-hailing apps so you need to use normal taxis, which are often quite rude and dishonest!
